Senator Florence Ita-Giwa was born on 19 February 1946 in Atabong, Bakassi LGA, Cross River State, and attended the Kilburn Polytechnic in London, United Kingdom. She became a nurse, then a representative for the Beecham pharmaceutical company, and then moved to Standall Pharmaceutical where she represented Lagos State. She married Dele Giwa, the founding editor of Newswatch magazine.They were married for only ten months, after which Dele Giwa married Olufunmi Olaniyan, who was married to him until his death in 1986.

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa joined politics and emerged as NRC chairman for Delta State. Thereafter, she was elected a member of the federal House of Representatives 1992-93, and was a member of the committee on devolution of power constituent assembly 1994-95. She became involved in Bakassi affairs, and earned the nickname “Mama Bakassi”.Senator Florence Ita-Giwa was elected Senator for the Cross River South constituency in April 1999 to may 2003 and was appointed to committees on Rules and Procedures, Environment, Foreign Affairs, Women, Niger Delta and Drug & Narcotics. She is a great Patron Of FADAN(Fashion Designers Association Of Nigeria).

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa Is highly celebrated,The Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria-FADAN celebrated the 70^th birthday of their Patron; Senator Florence Ita-Giwa at an exclusive and exquisite event on the 13 Th February 2016  which held at the Grand Ball Room of the Oriental Hotel, Lagos between the hour of 4 pm till 9 pm.Personalities in attendance were,Dignitaries, Government officials and friends of the celebrant in attendance included; Mrs. Sally Mbanefo, Director General of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, Dame Abimbola Fashola, fashionista Abba Folawiyo, Chief Mrs. Opral Benson, Actress Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Chief Dele Momodu, Chief and Mrs. Anumudu ,Mr Nigeria,Miss Universe Tourism and so on, to name a few.

The Birthday celebration of Senator Florence Ita-Giwa was filled up with so many activity, Cat Walk Run way By Models showcasing the designs of Graces Hat, Dozzy couture, Ara-Ewa , Ade Bakare, Maufechi,Mc Coy Designs And so on.Student of the YABATECH were present at the celebration, painting of guest at the event and also a special portrait presented to Senator Florence Ita-Giwa. The Birthday Cake  is highly stylised and glamorous and the cutting was been supervised by Mr Dele Momodu,with families, friends and dignitaries gathered around her in cutting of the birthday cake.President of FADAN and chief organizer of the event, Mrs. Funmi Ajila Ladipo described the celebrant as one with an extremely large heart and also a chronic lover of fashion. She acknowledged the celebrants continuous support of the association through the years.
